Battery Backup/Surge Protector

A surge protector is vital to protecting the computer, monitor, and printer. These devices have specific voltage tolerances and can easily be damaged by an unregulated power source. It is mandatory that a battery backup equipped surge protector be used and that ONLY the monitor and computer are plugged into the battery backup section.

The printer should be plugged into the surge protection only section. The battery is only designed to power the computer and monitor during a power outage! No other devices should at any time be plugged into your battery backup device. Doing so can cause the backup to fail during a power outage resulting in possible data loss, corruption, and irreversible electrical damage to the POS.

Battery Backup

Shown here is how to access the battery system in a typical battery backup device. This is only necessary when first installing the device out of the box, or when replacing a dead battery.

A dead battery is normally indicated by a red light on the front of the device accompanied by a beeping sound.

Battery Connection

When connecting a battery, ensure you do not reverse the polarity. Positive must be connected to positive, and negative must be connected to negative. A battery connected backwards is dangerous and potentially explosive.

If you are unfamiliar with these devices do not attempt to service them yourself.
